Anise

Aniseed or Pimpinella Anisum. It is a spice native to Mediterranean territory and southwestern Asia. Belongs to the family Apiaceae. The flavor resembles that of fennel, licorice and estrangon. The anise is used in distilleries to perfume the spirits stafiliou. In Greece, ouzo and raki, Turkey to raki, in Italy sambouka, in Spain anis. The anise seeds crushed or whole because of the sweet and very aromatic taste, used in baking, especially in the most traditional sweets of the Mediterranean. It has several beneficial and therapeutic properties. Relieves period pain, can dissolve the gas in the stomach and also has insect repellent action for head lice and the akaraia.
